Jim Stirk

Being an animator I find it hard to take things too seriously, so writing about what I do is confusing. Having said that I do have lots of useful skills picked up since graduating in Animation at Edinburgh College of art in 1997.

6 years of my experience was spent at West Highland Animation, where I worked my way up the ranks from Cel Painter to Shepherd. This experience gave me a unique ability to make animation in many traditional techniques (cut-out, drawn) and current techniques (web and interactive entertainment) I’m very experienced using Flash software for educational games, animated comics and various portfolio websites.

I currently use cut-out animation software “Cel Action” for character based animation. In 2006 I was production manager and animator for the “Tallest Story Competition” series for West Highland Animation, one of 4 series for the studio. Most work I’ve been involved in at West Highland Animation has also had endless extra responsibilities such as digital colouring, editing, training staff, DVD authoring, design and print, educational design.

More recently I have been working for Red Kite Animation in Edinburgh. I am increasingly involved in their workshop program, co-ordinating and running schools and other animation projects all over Scotland (and England too) I believe that keeping my animation work as diverse as it is, develops me as an artist.

I have a current CV and examples of my work on my website.
