Red Kite Animation
Established in 1997 by director Rachel Bevan Baker and producer Ken Anderson, Red Kite Animations is one of Scotland’s most innovative screen animation companies. Based in Edinburgh, Red Kite has produced a significant body of work, including short films, TV series and commercials – many of which have gone on to win awards.
Over the years, Red Kite has built up excellent relationships with broadcasters throughout the world. Involvement in series such as The Animated Tales of the World(S4C), The Many Deaths of Norman Spittal (BBC), Wilf the Witches Dog and The Secret World of Benjamin Bear has demonstrated the company’s ability to develop, fund and produce world-class programming which sells internationally.
The Red Kite portfolio also includes: The Selfish Giant (Channel 4); The Green Man of Knowledge (S4C), winner of the Jim Poole Award 2001 and nominated for BAFTA New Talent Award 2000; Lunar Jig (Channel 4), winner of the Spirit of Moondance Award 2002; Night Windows (Channel 4), winner of the BAFTA New Talent Award 2002; the BAFTA-nominated 64 Zoo Lane; The Tree Officer, winner of the Jim Poole Award 2004 and BAFTA Scotland Best Animation Award; and BAFTA Award-winning Pablo the Little Red Fox.
Other projects include The Imp, a 65 x one-minute series of animated shorts about an imp who tries very hard to spread evil within the mundane demands of domestic life, for Cartoon Network US and Disney Japan. We have also produced two short films, Famine for Cineworks/GMAC by Hugo Cuellar, and Shhh by Fumio Obata for the AIR scheme; both of which were selected to play at festivals around the world.
Red Kite’s most recent projects include two new TV series created from DC Thomson owned properties; Marvo the Wonder Chicken, a 52 x ninety second animated comedy series in the vein of the old Warner Brothers cartoons; and Dennis and Gnasher introduces a new series of Dennis the Menace and his dog, Gnasher.
Red Kite is also in the process of developing a trailer for a new TV series called N.E.R.D.S. that centres on the supernatural sleuthing of 3 young kids who are determined to find out what’s happening to their sleepy little town…
