Jessica Langford studied theatre design at Bristol Old Vic and animation in Prague. In 1981 she set up Edinburgh Animation Workshop and became known for her animation work with young people, including BBC Scotland’s Gaelic series Deabhan Beo and the Village Views for Scottish Television, plus numerous international workshops.In 1998 Jessica set up Pomegranate Films. She is especially interested in experimenting, integrating animation, shadow puppets, dance and performance.

At the Still Point of the Turning World An animation dance performance The Tron Theatre, Glasgow 2001. In 2000, Jessica received a Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Award to work with a choreographer. Animation, shadows, dance and music. 20 minutes.

The Gift: Commissioned by Channel Four and Scottish Screen. 2005. 9 minutes. Broadcast Channel 4, Christmas 2005. Animated in sand. Composer Sally Beamish.

A young girl rescues a seal and is rewarded with a mysterious shell containing the gift of time. Premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2005 and selected for 40 international festivals, including Berlin 2006, Zagreb, Hiroshima’s Best of World Animation.

Jessica has also worked on new pieces, including animating shadows for Ailie Cohen’s performance, The New Not New at The Citizen’s Theatre Glasgow and The Traverse, Edinburgh 2009.
