Dummy Jim has been shortlisted for a Jodi Award for accessible digital culture. The awards are named in memory of Jodi Mattes (1973-2001), a tireless champion of equal access to culture for disabled people, who worked at the British Museum and RNIB. The winners will be announced at the Jodi Awards event on 2 December 2009 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The awards will be presented by Martha Lane Fox, the UK government’s Digital Inclusion Champion.

Designer Alan Brown has been working hard and there have been some significant changes at Dummy Jim which you are encouraged to explore. The Flash site now also has a linked blogsite that’s got all Dummy Jim’s news and info. The blogsite also boasts a brand new shop where you can get hold of badges, postcards, an advance copy of the Special Edition DVD and very excitingly the brilliant new Dummy Jim CD Album written and performed by The One Ensemble and Sarah Kenchington.

Anything you buy in the shop directly supports the making of the feature film and you’ll also be supporting the work of the National Deaf Children’s Society, so please get involved … and see your name up on the silver screen!

Battenberg

After months of intense production Digicult Scottish Digital short commission ‘Battenberg’ is now complete.

Colliding with the dusty window of an abandoned guest-house, an unwitting bird fails to realise the curious horror lurking within.
Hidden inside, a strange dual universe awaits the accidental visitor. Amid the disorientating, skewed décor, indiscernible creatures scuttle, jars teem with dark mystery and a shadowy presence resides with ambiguous motives, ready to lure us into it’s rooms of curiosity.

Inspired by a Roald Dahl short story, Stewart Comrie wrote Battenberg in 2009 with the support of Digicult Digital Shorts development initiative. He then directed and animated it with the help of multi talented producer Anna Odell.
The film will be entered into festivals nationally and internationally so watch out for updates on the website about screenings and events where Battenberg can be seen.
The film was funded by Scottish Screen and the UK Film Council.
